(pick up only)These three silver dollars were surrendered to us and are ready for a new home! They are 4+ inches in length, and need a good home with lots of space.
The Silver Dollar (Metynnis argenteus) is a large, peaceful schooling fish. This fish is large, flat, and bright silver with a red anal fin.
The Silver Dollar is usually available in fish stores at ~1 inch long, but these fish grow quite large and need a big aquarium to house properly. Silver Dollars generally grow to 6 inches long, and live for 10 years. Because these fish are shoaling, a minimum of 3 need to be kept. A small school of Silver Dollars needs a 75-gallon aquarium (approx. 6 Silver Dollars). These fish prefer temperatures from the mid-70's to low-80's.
These fish may be kept with other similarly sized fish. While they are not particularly aggressive, they will chase significantly smaller tankmates. They can live with various catfish species, doradids, and south/cental American cichlids.
