The Giant Danio (Devario aequipinnatus) is a jumbo species of Danio originating from Asia. They have gold-coloured bodies with deep blue-purple stripes, making them an attractive species. This listing is for juvenile Giant Danios, around 1.5" long.

Due to the size of this species and their need to live in groups of 5+ members, it is recommended to keep them in a 55+ gallon aquarium when fully grown. While adult Giant Danios will need a 55+ gallon aquarium, younger Giant Danios may be grown out in aquariums as small as 20 gallons.

Giant Danios will require a water temperature between 72 F - 75 F, and won't tolerate cooler water as well as other danio species. They do well in a pH between 6.0-8.0.

These fish are omnivores and are not picky about what they eat. Giant Danios will eat most commercially available fish flake or pellets; keep in mind that food variety is important for any species of fish. Giant Danios love their protein, and will appreciate the inclusion of live or frozen foods into their diet.

A group of Giant Danio can live with other large fish species. They do well with larger, peaceful cichlid species, larger loach species (such as clown or yoyo loaches), and large barb and tetra species. It is not recommended to keep these fish with slow-moving species such as angelfish, as they can become targets for fin-nipping. Any fish species too small will become food, and are therefore not recommended either.

Giant Danios are not aggressive, but are very energetic. Do not keep them with fish that will stress easy or that cannot handle a lot of movement. Giant Danios should be kept with a tight-fitting aquarium lid, as they are prone to jumping.
