Peaceful Community/Species Aggressive

The Alien Betta (Betta spendens complex) is a hybrid species of betta. They have long slender bodies and short round fins as compared to standard Betta splendens varieties. They have highly sought for their bright true-blue bodies with intricate black markings on their fins.

These fish will do well in aquariums as small as 2.5 Gallons, but more space is always preferred. They are tropical fish, requiring their water temperature to fall between 76F-82F. Alien betta do best with a water pH between 5.0-7.0, but will acclimate to more alkaline water as well. These animals are hardy and will tolerate a wide range of water conditions, making them ideal fish for the beginner.

Alien betta do best in aquariums with a very little amount of current and plenty of plants to rest on, as they are not extremely strong swimmers. Because this species is good at jumping, a tight-fitting lid is necessary to prevent escapes.

These fish have a similar diet to most other betta fish. They are carnivores/insectivores that do best on diets rich in animal protein. We recommend alternating between a high-quality pellet or granule, flake, and frozen or live foods such as brine shrimp or bloodworms.

Alien Betta may live alone, or with tank mates provided there is enough space. These bettas generally do well with peaceful community species, but should not be kept with most semi-aggressive fish. Hybrid and wild bettas can sometimes be kept communally with their same species. This works best with a group of females and a single male, but occasionally these betta are too aggressive to be kept with other betta at all.
