The White Cloud Minnow (Tanichthys micagemmae), also called the White Cloud Mountain Minnow is a species of small, colorful minnow. These little fish have a luminous white stripe traveling down their sides, and vibrant red fins. The "Golden" variety has a yellow-coloured body and lacks a black side stripe.
These fish stay small, generally reaching 1.5 inches in length. They are hardy and can survive in a wide variety of water conditions. This little fish does, however, prefer cold water conditions; ideally, they are kept around 60 degrees. Keeping them above 70 degrees for extended periods of time will decrease their lifespans (which is 5 years on average, in optimal conditions). While a small shoal of 3 specimens will be able to live in a 5-gallon aquarium, a shoal of 6 in a 10-gallon aquarium is preferred. If the shoal is too little, the fish will get nervous and hide constantly.
These fish are able to live in cool water with fish from their local demographic, such as Gold Barbs and Paradise Gourami. Due to their intolerance to warm water, they should either be kept alone or with other cool-water fish. Do not keep these with goldfish, as the goldfish will quickly grow large enough to eat them.
