The Clown Pleco (Panaque maccus) is a smaller species of pleco with a dark body and light orange/brown stripes.

These hardy plecos generally live for 10 years on average. They only get 3.5 inches on average from nose to tail, making them ideal for tanks 20 gallons and up. While they are small and generally inactive, these animals create a lot of waste that a small aquarium may not be able to handle. They do well in water temperatures from the low-70's to low-80's.

These fish are primarily herbivores. While they will eat the algae growing in your aquarium, their diet should still consist of foods such as algae pellets or wafers, and blanched vegetables such as peas and zucchini. These fish benefit from the occasional addition of meat-based foods in their diet, either from a commercial fish pellet or flake, or frozen foods such as bloodworms or brine shrimp. Plecos should always have access to driftwood in their aquariums, as it provides valuable shelter and fiber to the pleco's diet.

These fish are very docile and will get along with other peaceful community fish (including other bottom feeders). These fish can be kept with smaller semi-aggressive fish too, provided there are enough places for the pleco to hide.
