The Scarlet Badis (Dario dario) are an extremely popular species of nano fish, characterized by their small size, colourful markings, and a peaceful-yet-curious disposition. This listing is for unsexed juvenile Scarlet Badis.

These fish will generally grow to just under an inch in length, making them a great addition to smaller community tanks. A small group of them (5) may be kept comfortably in a 10-gallon aquarium. Scarlet Badis do significantly better in a planted aquarium, and their home should have plenty of aquatic plants and hiding spots. They prefer a pH in the neutral range (6.5-7.5), and require water temperatures of 72-79 degrees Fahrenheit.

While these fish are small and capable of living in a smaller space, these fish are not particularly hardy. They require water that is well-maintained and fully cycled. Never add Scarlet Badis to an uncycled aquarium.

Scarlet Badis will not eat flakes or pellets and must be maintained on either live or frozen meaty foods such as daphnia, brine shrimp, and bloodworms. Variety is important in their diet.

These fish are best kept with their own species, but may also be kept in a community setting. Only keep these fish with other docile, slow-moving fish. Scarlet Badis are generally skittish, and will not do well with particularly aggressive or energetic tankmates.
